Nearly 1 in 3 women will experience pelvis and pelvic floor muscle problems during their lifetime. Often these problems are associated with changes that occur during pregnancy and the postpartum period. However, many women have suffered with pelvic floor muscle symptoms since early adolescence, while others will experience problems only as they transition into menopause. Many women will accept these changes as natural consequences of motherhood or ageing, without knowing that safe and effective treatment is available.

At MoveX, we offer a specialised women’s health service for the diagnosis and treatment of a range of pelvic floor muscle problems. We will discuss your symptoms in depth, perform a thorough assessment of the pelvic floor muscles and provide an individualised treatment program to help improve your symptoms.

Antenatal Physiotherapy

Nearly 1 in 5 women will experience lower back, pelvic girdle and/or pubic symphysis pain (PGP and PSD) during their pregnancy. Increased stress on the muscles and joints of the lower back and pelvis are common due to the normal postural changes associated with pregnancy. Symptoms can present as early as the first trimester and last throughout the pregnancy. Early diagnosis and intervention can significantly help alleviate the pain and dysfunction associated with pregnancy related lower back pain, PGP and PSD.

At MoveX, we offer a specialised antenatal physiotherapy service for women experiencing pregnancy-related musculoskeletal pain. Treatment includes a full postural screen with specific attention to lower back, pelvis and hips; a bespoke exercise program with emphasis on abdominal, hip and pelvic floor muscle strength; gentle soft tissue massage to ease the pain around the joints and muscles; advice on support belts and sleep aides; and exercise recommendations to keep you fit and strong for the duration of your pregnancy.

Postnatal Physiotherapy

Nearly half of all new mothers will experience feelings of lower back pain, pelvic instability, abdominal weakness and/or pelvic floor muscle problems. These problems can begin immediately after birth and persist well beyond the postpartum period if left untreated. Early diagnosis and intervention are essential to help reduce pain and discomfort and improve the long-term functional outcome. At MoveX, we offer a tailored postnatal rehabilitation program and advice on how to manage the physical demands of motherhood including squatting, lifting and carrying. Our goal is to help restore confidence in your body and give you the support that you need to get moving again.
